Description
Shrub, 1-3 m high; branches and branchlets acutely 4-angular, medullose, glabrous; bark reddish brown; nodes annulate, swollen; internodes 2-5 cm long. Leaves decussate-opposite, sometimes ternate, oblanceolate, elliptic-lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, acute to cuneate at base, entire or slightly repand along margins, acuminate at apex, 5-25 x 1.5-10 cm, chartaceous, dark green glabrous above, paler glaucescent glabrous beneath; lateral nerves 5-8 pairs, arcuate at margin, prominent beneath; petioles canaliculate, 0.5-1.5 cm long, rather indistinguishable from decurrent lamina. Racemes cymose, terminal, elongate, 15-30 cm long, minutely pubescent; individual cymes 6-9; peduncles terete, slender, 1.5-10 cm long, glabrous; bracts subulate or linear-lanceolate, acuminate at apex, ca 1.5 x 0.2 cm, glabrous, purplish green; pedicels slender, 1-2 cm long, minutely pubescent. Calyx ovoid, inflated, ca 9 x 7 mm, divided nearly to base; lobes ovate-lanceolate, acute, ca 1 x 0.6 cm, pubescent, purplish green. Corolla hypocrateriform, 5-lobed, white; lobes subequal, obovate or oblanceolate, entire or crenate, obtuse, 1.5-2 x 0.5-1 cm, shiny, glabrous; tube narrow, ca 1.5-0.2 cm, sparsely pubescent outside. Stamens 4, didynamous; filaments slender, 2.5-3.5 cm long, glabrous, white.
