Agave Victoriae – Plant
₹535.00
These plants were discovered by the Spaniards in the 17th century where the local Indians used them for fibres, food and to make an alcoholic drink like Tequila.
The fibres were used to make clothing and ropes. Most of the plant was used for food, raw and cooked. Flowering stems and flowers are edible and were roasted or boiled.
Difficulty: Easy to Medium
Fertilizer: Apply standard liquid fertiliser every two weeks during the active growing period. Do not fertilise the plant during the resting period.
Flower Colour: Greenish yellow
Height: Height: 3.00 to 6.00 feet Spread: 6.00 to 10.00 feet
Soil: Use a potting soil mix with a little sand; a cactus & succulents likes good drainage. You can mix in a little slow release organic fertilizer, but it is not necessary. Make sure to pack down the soil around the transplanted plant, and thoroughly water it, to help spur the rooting process in the new soil.
Sunlight: Place the plant in a bright area of the home; a south or south-east facing window works great. If natural light is not adequate, you can supplement with a nice natural white florescent bulb. You can put it outside in summer and spring, with indirect light, but it will need to remain indoors during fall and winter.
Temperature: Agave americana likes warm temperatures in summer and cooler in winter with a minimum of 10°C (50°F). Normal room temperature is great for Agave americana during the growth period. Plants become more tolerant of cold temperatures as they grow larger.
Water: When the soil is dry it is time to water. If the plant gets too fleshy and starts to lean over, you need to water less often. Dry climate, outdoors: Water every two to three days when warm and sunny. Humid, cool or indoors: Water every week. During the fall and winter months, the plants should be watered less frequently in order to promote blooming.
Bloom Time: Summer.
